On August 23, 2006 all the food safety related acts came under one Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). According to FSSAI Act, 2006,
it is mandatory to obtain food license for everyone who are in the chain of food business operator (FBOs).

FSSAI licenses issued to food business are valid for a period of 1-5 years, and it is mandatory to apply for license renewal 30 days before the expiry of the existing license. In case of non-renewal of licenses a fine of Rs.100 per day will be charged until the renewal is done.
