ISI mark is a certification mark for industrial items in India. The name ISI stands for Indian Standards Institute, the previous name of the Bureau of Indian Standards. It has 7-digit license number (CM/L-xxxxxxx) required by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
The Standard Mark for every product is unique and is notified in the Gazette of India. Licenses to use the standard Mark on large number of products are granted to manufacturers under the Certification Mark Scheme which is operated under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986.
License number is a seven digit number, represented as CM/L given along with the Standard Mark. This helps in identifying the unit which has manufactured the product at a specific location.
The ISI mark is mandatory for certain products to be sold in India, such as :-
ISI mark conveys that the product carrying the Mark conforms to the relevant Indian Standard certified by BIS.
